Save Money on Your Water Bills

Find out how making a few simple changes to save water can also put money in your pocket.

The average person in the UK uses a staggering 150 litres of water per day. By spending little, or no money, you can reduce this figure and save money on your water bills. You’ll only save on your bills if you have a water meter. If you pay a fixed monthly charge you could be better off with a meter, if your water usage is low.

Use less water when you flush – most toilets use around 10 litres for each flush. Completely fill a 1 litre bottle with water and place it into your toilet cistern (the small tank that holds the water above your toilet). Make sure the bottle is away from any moving parts.
Choose a shower – try having a shower instead of a bath. You should be able to shower in no more than a few minutes.
Turn off taps – turn off the tap whilst you’re brushing your teeth. Or if you’re doing the washing up, try using a bowl of water instead of a running tap to clean your dishes.
Turn your washing machine to a faster setting – quicker settings often use less water.
Recycle water – save clean waste water (like the water you use to cook your veg, or your pets old water) for watering your garden. Make sure it doesn’t contain any chemicals or other harmful residue.

Install a water meter

Many homes pay less when using a water meter. You can have one installed for free by calling your local water company. Follow our tips to ensure your water usage is as low as possible.

Install tap and shower aerators

Aerators work by mixing the water coming out of your shower or tap with air. These devices help save water without losing any water pressure. So you can still have a great shower and save money of your bills. They are quick and easy to install. To book a plumber please get in touch.
